GLD SMB kicked off this past week and didn't disappoint. We've seen three Grand Slams already and seen three pitchers take come backers knocking them out of the game. Luckily, the pitchers are on the road to recovery, but what intense action! We had blown saves, come from behind wins, and a game ending walkoff double.
Right out the gate we witnessed some great individual performances. Kingston Clements, from the Knightmares, in the very first game of our season set the benchmark for strikeouts, current leading the league with 7. On the flipside, we seen Wade Runnette of the Knightmares as well, have the first multi-HR game in the very same game.
Other highlights were Effie Trinket hitting the first Grand Slam in her first career at bat, and then in the following game hitting a 3-run HR. She currently leads the league with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI.
Shaz Huber of the Bionics posted the very first complete game shutout as well as the Bionic ace, Overt Jock, having a great start as well, with 6 strikeouts 5.2 innings pitched, with no runs allowed. Just one out away from a second Bionics complete game shutout.
Pitcher of the week went to Alma Coin who was a bright spot in an opening week of questionable pitching performances. She pitched 6.2 innings in 2 relief appearances, not allowing a run, walk, or hit, thus posting an impressive 0.00 WHIP and .000 BAA for the week.
Player of the week went to Pencille Clark. Being one of the premiere power hitters in the league most pitchers tried to pitch around her, but her patience at the plate resulted in 7 walks. When pitchers did give her something to hit, she did exactly that, going 5 for 6 with 1HR and 5 RBI.
As far as the Conference standings go we have the Royal Beasts atop the Full Throttle Conference with an undefeated 4-0 record and The Reaping leading the way in the Hype Train conference at 3-1. However, only 4 games into the season and most teams sitting at a .500 record, there are no clear favorites just yet. Once we hit the halfway mark of 12 games some teams may start to emerge as conference favorites.
We'll check back in after the next 4 games and don't forget to checkout your teams games at twitch.tv/geeklockdown
